Job Description

AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer: BCC is hiring for an ai engineer /machine learning engineer to modernise CRM, data, automation and AI workflows.

We are one of the UK’s leading independent cruise specialists. Behind the customer service is a business system we know well: a Microsoft Access front end, SQL Server behind it, and years of in-house work since 1997,
We are not ripping that out for the sake of a trend. We want an AI engineer who can modernise it intelligently, an ai engineer who can make old and new systems work together. Better workflows. Cleaner integrations. Useful automation. AI and machine learning, where they make commercial sense.

This role will suit someone who likes to solve real business problems. It also suits a machine learning engineer who can look at a process, understand the data, and build something staff will actually use.

Machine Learning / AI Engineer Role

We are looking for an AI and Machine Learning Automation Engineer to design, test and implement practical tools across the business. You will work with our internal systems team and leadership to improve the way our CRM, booking processes, reporting and operational workflows support the company.

The right AI engineer will be hands-on. You will build internal assistants, connect APIs, automate administration, support reporting, and help us use data more sensibly. An experienced machine learning engineer will know when a model is worth building, when rules are enough, and when a simpler system change will do the job.

You may work with Microsoft Access, VBA, SQL Server, APIs, JSON data, LLM services, Azure tools, Python, Power Automate or other platforms when they fit the problem. We care less about a perfect stack and more about judgement.

What you will work on:

As our AI engineer, you will help identify where AI, machine learning or automation can remove friction from daily work. That could mean supplier integrations with cruise operators, hotels, transfers or payment providers. It could mean smarter internal search, better forecasting, classification, recommendations, or AI-assisted workflows for staff.

A machine learning engineer in this role needs to be comfortable with existing systems, not just new builds. Some of the most valuable work will involve improving what already runs the business.

What we are looking for:

We need an ai engineer with strong technical problem-solving skills, a practical mindset, and confidence working with non-technical users. You should understand SQL Server and data-led systems, know how APIs and web services fit together, and be able to spot the difference between useful automation and overcomplication.

The machine learning engineer will have applied machine learning experience, understand LLM APIs or AI tools, and be able to explain choices clearly. If you have worked with Access, VBA, Power Platform, Azure, OpenAI APIs, embeddings, AI-powered search, CRM systems, booking systems, source control or payment integrations, that will help.

Why join us?

This is a chance for an ai engineer to shape how a stable, ambitious, family-run business uses technology. The projects are practical. The systems matter. The work should improve efficiency, reduce manual tasks and help people make better decisions.
For a machine learning engineer, the appeal is impact. You will not be building experiments that sit unused. You will be close to the business, close to the users, and involved in deciding what gets built next.
The AI engineer role is office-based. Salary starts from £50,000 per year, depending on experience.

Benefits include:

  • employee discount
  • health and wellbeing programme
  • on-site parking.

If you are an ai engineer or machine learning engineer who wants practical AI work with real commercial value, we would like to hear from you.
