We’re looking for a talented Back End API Developer (Software Engineer) to join our fast-moving and collaborative team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in designing, developing, and maintaining the APIs and backend systems that power our products for some of the world’s largest retailers.
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to the architecture, development, and operation of backend systems and APIs.
- Collaborate remotely with developers, designers, and subject matter experts as part of a cross-functional team.
- Work primarily with Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Postgres, deployed via Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform.
- Report to the Head of API Development and coordinate with other internal teams and stakeholders.
- Occasionally liaise with external clients and partners to gather requirements and support integrations.
- Attend occasional on-site meetings in Milton Keynes (for remote staff). Hybrid working is available for those within commuting distance.
What We’re Looking For (Required)
- 3–5 years of professional experience in backend web development.
- Strong knowledge of Python and SQL in a commercial environment.
- Experience with FastAPI or similar Python web frameworks.
- Understanding of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with CI pipelines and automated testing.
- Experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes.
- Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform or comparable cloud infrastructure.
Nice to Have:
- Systems administration experience on GCP.
- Database performance tuning and maintenance (Postgres).
- Kubernetes cluster management.
- Frontend experience (React) is a plus.
- Background in the retail industry is a bonus, but not required.
