Backend API Developer (ID: vr5NWCEJ)

We’re looking for a talented Back End API Developer (Software Engineer) to join our fast-moving and collaborative team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in designing, developing, and maintaining the APIs and backend systems that power our products for some of the world’s largest retailers.

What You’ll Do

• Contribute to the architecture, development, and operation of backend systems and APIs.
• Collaborate remotely with developers, designers, and subject matter experts as part of a cross-functional team.
• Work primarily with Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Postgres, deployed via Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform.
• Report to the Head of API Development and coordinate with other internal teams and stakeholders.
• Occasionally liaise with external clients and partners to gather requirements and support integrations.
• Attend occasional on-site meetings in Milton Keynes (for remote staff). Hybrid working is available for those within commuting distance.

What We’re Looking For (Required)

• 3–5 years of professional experience in backend web development.
• Strong knowledge of Python and SQL in a commercial environment.
• Experience with FastAPI or similar Python web frameworks.
• Understanding of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with CI pipelines and automated testing.
• Experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes.
• Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform or comparable cloud infrastructure.

Nice to Have:

• Systems administration experience on GCP.
• Database performance tuning and maintenance (Postgres).
• Kubernetes cluster management.
• Frontend experience (React) is a plus.
• Background in the retail industry is a bonus, but not required.
