Job Description

React developer, to help with the development of our innovative products - near-infrared spectrometers to help the world sort out the huge amount of plastic and textile waste. Each tonne of fabric or plastic waste recycled (for which using identification machines such as ours is essential) helps conserve natural resources and prevents pollution from being released - helping save the planet, one machine at a time.

As we are a startup and a small company, your work will have a real impact - on the planet and on our company. You will collaborate with our young and dynamic team - we expect you to be proactive, able to work independently and have a "get it done" spirit.

The work is hybrid remote, in our office in London SW9. We have excellent transport connections - London Underground (Oval station) is just 3 minutes walk and trains (Vauxhall station) is 15 mins.

React Developer Responsibilities:

  • Development of React front-end (web interface) for our devices and cloud systems
  • Development of React-native based app to control our devices and save data
  • Testing such software
  • Management of deployed infrastructure / containers

Must have:

  • Degree in a relevant field (computer science, or other engineering if plenty of experience)
  • 3+ years of demonstrable React/TS proficiency, working on commercial or complex research projects
  • Demonstrable proficiency in HTML / CSS
  • Professional working English proficiency
  • Autonomous and reliable
  • Right to work in the UK (we are unable to sponsor visa at this stage, we potentially can after you work for us for >1 year)

Nice to have:

  • React Native experience
  • iOS/Android app development experience
  • Docker / containerisation / deployment experience
  • Google Cloud knowledge (or AWS, but we use GCP)
  • MongoDB proficiency

What's great in the job?

  • We enable you to make a genuine, tangible positive impact on the planet and society (not just working through pointless code for a corporate)
  • Fast moving, dynamic start-up company & young team
  • Great team of smart people, in a friendly and open culture
  • Expand your skills and knowledge in a green-tech startup

What We Offer:

  • salary of £40-60k (depending on qualifications, experience etc.)
  • performance bonus
  • standard holiday & sick pay terms
  • trainings & advancement of your technical skills
  • career growth within our fast-growing company, e.g. shift to a more supervisory role if you are capable, as the company grows

Application process:

*Not* 8-9 stages of endless interviews.

  • human review of all CVs and shortlisting of candidates, typically within a week of your submission
  • 30 min video interview, to find out more about you, your experience and skills (+ you can ask us questions, too)
  • 45-60 min remote coding session where you can show us your skills and thinking (strictly no AI assistants)
  • 60-120 min on-site coding session (Top 3 candidates, also strictly no AI) for a more in-depth evaluation, you can also see our work and meet the rest of the team
  • then we make a final decision - we expect this within 3 weeks of your application

Additional pay:

  • Performance bonus

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Company events
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee stock ownership plan
  • Flexitime
  • Sick pay
  • Transport links

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • London SW9: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Application question(s):

  • Do you have experience working on React/RN/TS projects in a commercial environment?
  • Quick question - how would you handle sharing user authentication state between multiple screens in a React (Native) app? (if you had to Google this, you will fail the interview - please don’t apply) - 3 sentences max.
