Job Description

A Ruby on Rails developer with a wider interest in software engineering that spans across languages and platforms. As a developer working primarily in our Chrysalis patient record management system, you will be responsible for maintaining the high standards of quality and professionalism that enable us to function as a specialist healthcare provider in the ADHD and autism healthcare sectors. You will have the opportunity to develop in your role to feed into our technical architecture expertise within our digital development team and drive best practices in software engineering and Agile technical team operations.

Within our digital delivery team, your role will encompass both technical/application architecture and software engineering across our Chrysalis platforms. This will include coding and development of new functionality and integration with external systems where required. You will help to extend our capability in Ruby on Rails coding and frameworks whilst applying your core skills in solution design to make appropriate recommendations to further develop our digital infrastructure.

You should have previous experience working for a healthcare provider and have a working knowledge of data security requirements when developing digital systems that incorporate sensitive and personal patient data.

Ruby on Rails Developer Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work within our development team to enhance our current products and build new functionality
  • Develop tested, well-structured and clean code.
  • Take responsibility for the sequencing of own tasks to make steady progress from both a technical and functional perspective.
  • Deliver against milestones and deadlines as part of the wider delivery team.
  • Support digital, operational and clinical colleagues where required, reacting to business needs, to ensure a seamless digital patient experience.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails. Coding and debugging/and enhancing application performance.
  • Proficient in JavaScript and familiar with front-end frameworks such as JavaScript, Angular, or React; including the ability to integrate front-end components with back-end logic.
  • Experience managing and optimising relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Experience in eCommerce solutions development/architecture, and system integration.
  • Proficient in Test Driven Development.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Organisation skills and an ability to manage own workload
  • An ability to work on own initiative yet be a key part of a team
  • Be a natural problem solver
  • Positive outlook and an ability to work well under pressure

Preferred qualifications and experience:

  • Experience of mobile application languages, including Swift and Kotlin
  • Previous experience of cloud hosting and platform migration, including Heroku and AWS
  • Experienced in developing Single Page Applications (SPA)/PWA with RESTful services in Service Oriented Architecture
  • Experience working with or integrating with NHS platforms and services
