Do you write PHP code you’re actually proud of? Not just code that works, but code you can explain—how it solves the problem, and why it’s built that way. (We’ll ignore that one 2am function that miraculously still works. We’ve all got one.)
- Does your code play nicely with others—merging without setting off alarms or causing team-wide blood pressure spikes?
- Can you stand behind your code’s security, performance, and maintainability—without resorting to tears, excuses, or blunt instruments?
- Can you read and review even the most arcane pull request (you know the kind—written like it's for the International Obfuscated C Contest) and still offer useful, constructive feedback?
- And when you use AI tools, do you treat their output with suspicion, as if it came from an overconfident intern who might be trolling you?
If you're still nodding along—read on.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Writing clean, maintainable PHP to build and enhance back-end services, APIs, and internal systems.
- Collaborating with front-end and full-stack devs to deliver fast, secure, user-friendly features.
- Helping shape the design and architecture of new systems and features.
- Taking ownership—from scoping and planning through development, testing, deployment, and beyond.
- Debugging real-world issues (not just tossing in a try/catch and hoping for the best). You'll investigate logs, recreate issues, and actually fix them—properly.
- Reviewing pull requests with constructive feedback to improve both code quality and team skills.
Working on a mix of legacy systems and new projects. Sometimes you'll scream “Why?!” at old code, but then you’ll refactor it into something you’re proud of.

Nice to Have
- Experience with Docker, AWS, or containerized dev environments.
- Familiarity with headless CMSs or content APIs.
- Some awareness of front-end challenges—even if it’s just enough to sympathize with your teammates wrestling with CSS.
