Job Description

As our Backend Developer, you will be working alongside our Technical Director and Front End Developer. You'll design, develop and maintain the server-side applications that power our internal systems and support our long-term SaaS ambitions.

This is a varied role that combines hands-on development with problem-solving and close collaboration across multiple departments. You'll work on projects that have a real impact on colleagues, customers and the continued growth of the Group.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, maintaining and improving business-critical web applications.
  • Designing, optimising and maintaining scalable relational databases.
  • Building secure APIs and integrating with third-party platforms.
  • Supporting and enhancing WooCommerce and e-commerce functionality.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to understand business challenges and deliver practical solutions.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve systems, automation and user experience.
  • Contributing to the long-term evolution of our technology platform and software architecture.

About You:

We're looking for someone who enjoys building reliable software, solving technical challenges and continuously learning. While experience is important, we're equally interested in your attitude, curiosity and willingness to grow.

You'll ideally have experience with:

  • PHP and object-oriented programming.
  • MariaDB or other relational database systems.
  • API development and third-party integrations.
  • HTTP, JSON and RESTful technologies.
  • Git or other version control systems.

You'll also be someone who:

  • Enjoys solving complex problems.
  • Is curious about how technology can improve a business.
  • Takes pride in writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
  • Communicates confidently with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Works collaboratively and brings a positive, proactive attitude to the team.

Experience with WooCommerce, e-commerce platforms or operational business systems would be advantageous, but it's by no means essential.

About Us:

From logistics and vehicle solutions to fulfilment and e-commerce, our businesses rely on a growing suite of bespoke applications that keep operations running smoothly, improve efficiency and deliver outstanding service. As we continue to grow, we're looking for a talented Back End Developer to help shape the next generation of our internal systems and future software products.

If you enjoy solving real business problems, building robust applications and seeing the direct impact of your work, we'd love to hear from you.

Why join us?

We're a successful South West business with ambitious plans for the future, but we're equally proud of the supportive culture we've built along the way.

We believe the best ideas can come from anyone. We encourage curiosity, collaboration and innovation, and we're committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, trusted and empowered to do their best work.

This is a role where your ideas matter. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, contribute to exciting projects and make a genuine difference across the business.

What You'll Receive:

  • Competitive salary of £30,000–£37,500, depending on experience.
  • 5.6 weeks' annual leave, increasing with length of service.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • Employee discounts on vehicle rentals, hampers and other Group services.
  • The opportunity to work on meaningful projects that directly influence the success of the business.
  • A supportive team environment where your ideas are valued and your career can grow.

Don't let the checklist stop you.

Research consistently shows that many great candidates choose not to apply unless they meet every requirement.

If you're excited by this opportunity and believe you could make a positive contribution, we'd encourage you to apply — even if your experience doesn't perfectly match every point above.

We're looking for talented people with the right attitude, strong problem-solving skills and the potential to grow, just as much as technical experience.
