As a Senior AI Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of designing the technical architecture for our cutting-edge AI platform. You'll be responsible for architecting scalable, secure, and cost-efficient systems, leading critical technical decisions across our Python and TypeScript stack, and building robust AI solutions hosted within our Azure estate. This is a hands-on, impactful role where your decisions directly shape the AI solutions delivered to clients.
In this role, you will lead across the full project lifecycle. You'll design and implement multi-agent orchestration pipelines, RAG patterns, and backend architectures, while creating high-performance React frontends that display AI-driven insights. You’ll collaborate closely with clients, product owners, and infrastructure experts to integrate generative AI into real business workflows, owning the technical delivery of our most ambitious projects.

AI Engineer Responsibilities:
- Architect scalable systems: Design and implement full-stack architectures that integrate traditional web services with generative AI components, ensuring resilience, high availability, and cost-efficiency in Azure-hosted environments.
- Build backend pipelines: Architect complex backend solutions in Python, leveraging multi-agent systems, RAG patterns, and AI integration strategies within Azure's enterprise AI ecosystem (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Document Intelligence).
- Lead frontend development: Set the technical direction for the TypeScript/React frontend, ensuring performant, accessible, and intuitive user experiences with real-time streaming and interactive data visualisations.
- Optimise Azure environments: Manage configuration and optimisation of Azure cloud services, establish robust CI/CD pipelines, and ensure efficient use of Azure AI APIs, GPU resources, and container orchestration.
- Enforce coding best practices: Set high standards for code quality, conduct comprehensive reviews, prepare technical design documents, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers to help them grow.
- Champion Responsible AI: Ensure adherence to Responsible AI practices, including model evaluation, bias monitoring, content filtering, and compliance with data protection regulations. Define and maintain guardrails for LLM-powered features.
- Resolve recurring issues: Identify recurring technical problems and implement long-term, sustainable solutions.
- Client engagement: Contribute to pre-sales activities and client discussions, providing architectural guidance, solution designs, and effort estimations for AI-driven projects.
Requirements:
Essential AI Engineer Technical Skills:
- 6+ years in software engineering: Proven track record in architecting and delivering complex software solutions across the full lifecycle.
- Expert Python skills: Strong expertise in Python for backend services, data pipelines, and AI integration, using frameworks such as FastAPI, Pydantic, and async patterns.
- Advanced TypeScript & React: Experience with building production-grade frontends, managing state, optimising performance, and implementing modern component architectures.
- LLM integration experience: Practical knowledge of integrating and scaling LLMs in production, managing token limits, latency budgets, and using prompt engineering for effective results.
- Full-stack system design: Strong understanding of system design principles, including API design, microservices, event-driven patterns, and distributed caching strategies.
- Familiar with AI-assisted tools: Comfortable working with AI-driven development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to accelerate software development.
- CI/CD & DevOps: Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps), containerization (Docker), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
- Azure proficiency: Familiar with deploying AI solutions in Azure, particularly with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, and Azure Container Apps.
Desirable Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with LLMOps pipelines, A/B testing, and automated prompt regression testing.
- Knowledge of multi-agent frameworks (e.g., LangGraph) and document intelligence pipelines.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric for data analytics and reporting pipelines.
- Experience in secure authentication/authorisation (OAuth 2.0, managed identities).
- Familiarity with container orchestration beyond Docker, such as Kubernetes or AKS.
