Front End Web Developer (ID: 4KITDje0)

As a front-end developer, you will be working in the Web and AI team: a small group of developers working on the code that delivers our 20+ news and events websites. This role will involve working on bug fixes, features, integrating with 3rd parties and other business priorities such as improvements to our Content Management System product.

We’re a relatively small, fast-adapting, and self-managed team with a lot of freedom to suggest and improve parts of our system without the necessity of layers of sign-off.

Front End Web Developer Responsibilities:

• Bringing our customer experience vision to life
• Implementing new features with performance in mind
• Debugging and diagnosing issues
• Collaborating with engineers and non-technical team members
• Assisting in scoping and defining requirements for new features
• Sharing your knowledge with the wider team

Who are you?

• Highly proficient in vanilla JavaScript and frontend frameworks (we currently use Next.js)
• Good understanding of APIs and BE/FE communication
• Knowledgeable and passionate about building performant websites
• Strongly committed to accessibility best practices
• Well-organized and capable of managing your workload
• Confident in using developer tools such as package managers, virtualization tools, database GUIs, and Git
• Familiar with document-based databases (we use MongoDB)
• Able to implement time- and fault-tolerant features that other developers can easily build upon
• Experienced in handling release deployments
• Understanding of how front-end design effects site speed metrics (LCP, FID, CLS)
• Skilled at learning and improving large legacy systems

Bonus requirements:

• Familiarity with frontend-specific testing tools
• Experience with third-party services like Piano.io
• Previous experience working with news/commercial content management systems
• Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., Northflank, AWS, Google Cloud)
• Familiarity with backend development (e.g., amending API endpoints, creating database scripts)
