Job Description

We’re seeking a skilled Middleweight WordPress Developer with strong PHP and MySQL expertise to join our growing development team. This is a hands-on role focused on building and extending custom WordPress solutions, with a strong emphasis on WooCommerce-powered eCommerce platforms.

You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, scalable builds — developing custom themes and plugins, optimising performance, and implementing robust, database-driven functionality. This position suits someone who understands the WordPress ecosystem inside out and is confident working on complex, bespoke projects.

WordPress Developer Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance custom WordPress themes and plugins
  • Extend WooCommerce functionality using actions, filters, and bespoke logic
  • Write clean, maintainable PHP code with optimised MySQL queries
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex front-end and back-end issues
  •
  • Collaborate closely with designers, project managers, and fellow developers
  • Stay current with WordPress and WooCommerce best practices and updates

Requirements:

  • 3+ years’ professional WordPress development experience
  • Advanced PHP skills, including object-oriented programming
  • Strong MySQL knowledge (schema design and query optimisation)
  • Deep understanding of WordPress core concepts (template hierarchy, WP_Query, hooks)
  • Demonstrable experience extending WooCommerce
  • Experience working with REST APIs (WordPress and third-party)
  • Comfortable using server-side tools, CLI environments, and SSH
  • Ability to write secure, scalable, high-performance code

Must Have:

  • Extensive experience with ACF, WooCommerce, and membership plugins
  • Solid understanding of server administration fundamentals
  • Confident client-facing communication skills
  • Understanding of project scoping, helpdesk workflows, and support processes

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of caching strategies and performance optimisation techniques
  • Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and SEO best practices
  • Experience with headless WordPress or modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue)
  • Agency or multi-project environment experience
  • AWS or WP Engine administration experience

What We Offer:

  • A collaborative, forward-thinking development culture
  • Opportunities to lead projects and influence architectural decisions
  • Flexible working hours with remote options
  • Dedicated training budget and ongoing professional development support
