C# Software Engineer – Upgrades Lead - Location: Stokesley, with opportunities for international travel
Team: Service & Support
Software requirements evolve after an automation system is installed. A customer may need additional functionality or improvements to an existing application. At Labman, you’ll take ownership of the software upgrades that help our robotic and laboratory automation systems keep pace.
We’re looking for a C# Software Engineer – Upgrades Lead to join our Service & Support Team. This is a hands-on development role with technical leadership responsibility: you’ll write code, work through customer requirements and collaborate with engineers who understand the systems you’re upgrading.
Your main workplace will be our Stokesley office. There may also be opportunities to visit international customer sites to support deployment and see how the software is used.
The work you’ll take ownership of
You’ll design and develop upgrades in Microsoft C# .NET, maintaining existing applications alongside introducing new features. Understanding the equipment is part of the job. Videos, images and technical documentation will help you build a picture of how a system operates and where the software fits into its workflow.
For example, a request for new functionality means understanding how it will work within the customer’s existing system before deciding how to implement it. You’ll work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to connect those requirements with a practical software solution.
Your responsibilities will include:
Experience we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll bring at least three years’ commercial C# .NET development experience, including work on Windows desktop applications. A strong understanding of object-oriented programming is important, as is experience documenting technical work clearly.
You’ll need to be comfortable interpreting complex mechatronic systems—the interaction between software, mechanical equipment and electronics. You won’t always start with a complete picture, so being able to piece together workflows from documentation, images and video will help.
Clear communication is central to the role. You’ll work with engineers across different disciplines and with customers, explaining software changes and understanding what they need from their equipment.
If you enjoy getting to grips with an existing application and taking responsibility for its next stage of development, this role offers that scope.
Working with us:
We design and build robotic and laboratory automation systems used by organisations around the world. You’ll work alongside engineers, scientists and designers, with opportunities to understand the equipment behind the applications you develop.
The benefits package includes
33 days’ holiday, rising to 38, a company profit share scheme and a 5% employer pension contribution. You’ll also receive private healthcare through Aviva, enhanced parental leave and support for continuing professional development.
There’s a free gym, climbing wall and VR racing, plus sports and social clubs.
