Job Description

We are a company on a mission to become the leading platform for specialist accommodation and leisure property businesses to operate, grow and scale, supported by booking channels that are market leaders in their respective sectors.

An established e-commerce and software business with ambitious growth plans, and we're investing in how we build, develop and deliver our technology.

We're now looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our growing team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our platform, engineering practices and technical direction.

This is an opportunity to join us at an exciting point in our journey. We're evolving our ways of working and embarking on a significant re-platforming initiative. You'll have genuine influence over the decisions we make, the technology we adopt and how we approach the challenges ahead.

The Role

You'll join a cross-functional engineering team with broad ownership across our technology platform. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll bring more than strong technical skills. You'll help raise the standard of engineering across the team through technical leadership, mentoring, constructive code reviews, knowledge sharing and thoughtful architectural decisions.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in building great software, understands the importance of the customer experience and knows how to balance technical quality with pragmatic delivery.

Our core technology stack is .NET and C#. While deep expertise in these technologies is advantageous, we're equally interested in engineers who demonstrate strong architectural thinking, sound technical judgement and the ability to lead and develop those around them.

You'll join a team that values collaboration, intellectual curiosity, accountability, and continuous improvement. We want engineers who challenge unnecessary complexity, embrace new ideas and take ownership of delivering meaningful outcomes.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Developing and evolving a multi-brand Property Management System (PMS) and booking platform, with complex business logic and demanding performance requirements.
  • Playing a key role in a major re-platforming initiative, helping shape the architecture, technical approach and delivery strategy.
  • Modernising our .NET technology stack, focusing on code quality, maintainability, scalability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Designing and building secure, resilient and high-performing backend services and applications.
  • Influencing engineering standards, architectural decisions and development practices across the team.
  • Supporting and mentoring other engineers, encouraging knowledge sharing and promoting good engineering principles.
  • Exploring and adopting AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality and the way we build software.
  • This is a role where your technical decisions will have a visible impact, and where you'll have the opportunity to help shape both the platform and the engineering culture.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a technically strong and commercially minded engineer who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex problems and helping a team perform at its best.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior software engineering or technical leadership role, ideally within a backend-focused development environment.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to design and build scalable, resilient and secure systems.
  • Experience making architectural decisions, evaluating technical trade-offs and selecting solutions that balance quality, simplicity and business needs.
  • A strong appreciation for clean code, maintainability and sustainable engineering practices.
  • Excellent testing discipline, including unit testing, and a genuine commitment to embedding quality throughout the development lifecycle.
  • The confidence to establish and improve engineering standards, even where existing practices need to evolve.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments and the ability to navigate changing priorities and ambiguity.
  • A product-focused mindset, with an interest in understanding customer challenges and translating them into effective technical solutions.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and the importance of automation, continuous integration and rapid feedback loops.
  • An interest in AI-assisted software development, both through practical use and helping colleagues understand how to use these tools effectively.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Commercial experience with .NET and C#.
  • Experience with frontend development and modern web technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD).
  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring and application performance.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and modern cloud-based development practices.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary of £55,000 – £65,000, depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working, with the flexibility to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Meaningful technical ownership and responsibility from day one.
  • A genuine opportunity to influence architectural decisions and technical direction.
  • The chance to shape a major platform transformation and re-platforming initiative.
  • A supportive engineering environment that values learning, collaboration and high standards.
  • Paid training and professional development opportunities.
  • Long-term bonus plan, allowing employees to share in the growth of the business.
  • Pension contributions.
  • Generous holiday allowance, increasing to 28 days over time, plus bank holidays.
  • Relocation assistance for candidates moving to Bury St Edmunds.
  • Free on-site car parking.
  • A bright, dog-friendly office in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, complete with ping pong, table football, darts and plenty of coffee and tea.
  • Regular company events and opportunities to socialise with colleagues.

Why Join Us?

  • We're a close-knit team of around 27 people across software development, sales and account management. We're big enough to have ambitious plans and exciting technical challenges, but small enough for everyone to make a meaningful difference.
  • We're entering an important period of change, investing in our technology, improving how we work and raising the bar on engineering excellence.
  • You'll have the opportunity to influence decisions, take ownership of important projects and see the direct impact of your work on the business and its customers.
  • If you're looking for a senior engineering role where you can make a genuine contribution, help shape a growing technology business and work alongside people who care about doing things well, we'd love to hear from you.

Our Values & Commitments

Our culture is built around four key principles:

  • Passionate About Vendor Success & Customer Satisfaction
  • We believe our success comes from helping our vendors and customers succeed. We listen, engage and use insight from customers, vendors and data to continually improve our products and services. We're always looking for ways to differentiate ourselves and deliver greater value.
  • True Team Players
  • We believe great results come from working together. We share knowledge, support one another and remain open to feedback. We communicate honestly and respectfully, take responsibility for our work and put the success of the wider business ahead of individual interests.
  • Committed to Personal Excellence

We encourage a growth mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement. We take pride in our work, pay attention to detail and look for opportunities to learn and develop. We're proactive, positive and disciplined, and we never compromise on quality for short-term convenience.

Focused on What Matters Most

We believe in doing fewer things exceptionally well. We prioritise the opportunities that deliver the greatest value, simplify wherever possible and embrace automation. We avoid unnecessary complexity and focus our efforts on building sustainable products that serve our specialist markets.

Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

We're committed to building a diverse, inclusive and supportive workplace. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences, including those currently underrepresented in the technology industry.

If you're excited about this opportunity but don't meet every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you. Technical skills can be developed, and we recognise the value of different perspectives, experiences and potential.

Benefits include:

  • Casual dress
  • Free on-site parking
  • Relocation assistance
  • Company pension
  • Paid training
  • Long-term bonus plan
  • Additional annual leave based on length of service
