Hybrid Mid-Level Software Engineer role, based in Amersham, working across React Native, Expo, React, Laravel, Azure and AI product features.
Build software that keeps a 700-person operation moving
When a field team depends on an app every day, small engineering choices show up fast. Slow screens, awkward releases, flaky sync, unclear data- it all lands with real people trying to do their jobs across 70+ UK locations.
We’re hiring a Mid-Level Software Engineer to help improve the internal products our teams use daily. This role leans towards React Native, Expo and front-end engineering, with enough Laravel and PHP work to stay close to the APIs, auth flows and data behind the mobile experience.
You won’t be hidden behind layers of process. There are no project managers in the middle. You’ll take practical business problems, shape the solution, build the feature, ship it, demo it and see how it behaves in the field.
The products
- Our current stack includes a Laravel-based operations platform, Azure data pipelines, mobile apps built with React Native and Expo, and a new greenfield platform in early development.
- Some days are mobile-heavy. Other days mean tracking a bug back through a Laravel endpoint, checking a SQL query, improving a React screen or getting a release ready through EAS and OTA updates.
What you’ll be working on
- Mobile apps used by real teams
- You’ll build and improve React Native and Expo apps used out in the field. That includes new features, fixes, release work, EAS builds, OTA updates and the less glamorous stability work that separates a good demo from software people trust on a busy day.
- Push notifications, offline sync and native mobile experience would all be useful here, especially if you’ve seen how devices behave outside a perfect test setup.
- Front-end features in React and TypeScript
- You’ll work across React and modern TypeScript to improve the screens and workflows that sit around the mobile apps. We care about clear interfaces, sensible state, readable components and code that another engineer could pick up without a tour of every decision.
- Laravel, APIs and the backend behind the app
- Laravel and PHP are core to the role. You don’t need to be only a backend engineer, but you do need to be confident working with APIs, auth, endpoints, SQL-backed data and the services your apps consume.
- Experience with Filament, OAuth, SSO, integrations or queue systems would give you a useful head start.
What we’re looking for (The experience that fits)
- You’ll suit this Mid-Level Software Engineer role if you’ve spent a few years in front-end, mobile or full-stack engineering and have shipped production code, not only side projects or tutorial builds.
- Strong React Native experience is important. Expo would be ideal. React, TypeScript and JavaScript should feel familiar enough that you understand the trade-offs, not only the syntax.
- You’ll also need solid Laravel and PHP capability, plus a working understanding of SQL and data. Azure experience is preferred, although another cloud platform still gives you useful context.
The working style
- This is a good fit if you like owning work from requirement to delivery. You’ll need to ask sensible questions, make technical judgement calls and care about the craft without turning every decision into a committee.
- We’re also building AI features into our products. That means we’re interested in engineers who use AI tools confidently, but still understand the code well enough to review, test and defend what gets shipped.
What you’ll get from the role
- Real product ownership
- Your work will sit close to the business. The apps and front ends you touch are relied on by 700+ employees, so improvements are noticed quickly and rough edges do not stay theoretical for long.
- A broad technical stack
- You’ll work across mobile, web, backend, data and cloud, rather than being boxed into one narrow slice of the product. For the right engineer, that variety is a strength.
- Room to grow
There is a clear path towards senior engineer. You’ll have space to influence what gets built, how we build it and how the greenfield platform takes shape from the early stages.

How we hire
There’s no LeetCode test and no algorithm trivia.
The process is built around a practical feature build in our stack, with a mobile or front-end focus. After that, we’ll talk through your approach, the decisions you made and what you’d improve with more time.
We care more about how you think and build than how many puzzles you’ve memorised.
If this sounds like the kind of engineering role you’ve been looking for, apply now.
Please include examples of your work and links to any public GitHub repositories you’re especially proud of. You don’t need to tick every box before getting in touch.
