We're looking for a talented Data Engineer to join our Architecture team permanently. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in designing, building, and optimising the data infrastructure that powers our cloud-based Data Analytics Platform.
Working alongside Data Scientists, Analysts, Architects, and business stakeholders, you'll develop scalable, reliable, and high-performing data solutions that support Settlement operations and the wider GB electricity market.
With access to some of the UK's largest and most complex energy datasets, including more than 1.5 billion meter readings every day, you'll help drive the next generation of data engineering and analytics capabilities across the industry.
What you'll be doing
As a Data Engineer, you'll:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes
- Develop and optimise cloud-based data solutions that support analytics, reporting, and operational services
- Ensure the quality, integrity, and reliability of data across multiple platforms and sources
- Create and maintain data models, storage solutions, and integration frameworks
- Support the ingestion, transformation, and processing of large-scale electricity market and Settlement data
- Partner with Data Scientists and Analysts to enable advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting capabilities to maintain platform performance and stability
- Apply DataOps best practices, including automation, testing, deployment, and CI/CD
- Continuously improve platform performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
- Contribute to data engineering standards, governance, documentation, and technical best practices
What we're looking for
We're interested in candidates who bring:
- Proven experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform, or ETL development roles
- Strong SQL and Python skills for data transformation and processing
- Experience designing and supporting scalable data pipelines and distributed data processing solutions
- Expertise working with large, complex datasets within cloud environments
- Solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing, and data architecture principles
- Experience with cloud data technologies such as Azure and Databricks
- Familiarity with orchestration and workflow tools, including Azure Data Factory or similar platforms
- Knowledge of CI/CD, automation, and DevOps/DataOps practices
- Strong troubleshooting and performance optimisation skills
- Experience working within Agile, cross-functional teams
